Saturday’s junior day was the best we have had in years!
We had 10 sailors on the water in 6 boats.
The wind was medium to strong but we all managed to handle it well. The fleet was mixed, we had Toppers, a Vision, a Topaz and a Comet Duo out. The more experienced junior sailors David and Iona showed Jake how to capsize, at one point David had to swim a bit to get his boat back up. Jill and Izze were out in true form, sailing around without a care in the world, talking about everything and everyone. The Comet Duo had 3 crew and they were all smiles. Hopefully, we will see them out again. Jake, the newest member of the juniors, managed to stay up and not capsize but at one point his dinghy had so much water in, it was like sailing a bathtub.
Popcorn was also out for a bit with Iona in the Topper, she loved being back in the boat she learned to sail in.
Some more great news, on Sunday 29th August we have our August Bank holiday Regatta. There will be fun races such as sailing backwards, which seems to come naturally to many youths. And if the weather agrees there will be a BBQ after the race.
If there are any suggestions from the parents/ carers of the youths, on how to encourage the youths to spend more time on the water, please let me know. I will make sure every suggestion is discussed, the juniors can only be successful with your help.
See you sailing again soon,
Iona Reid,
Youth Rep, ASC
