Compound Clean Up Work Party – Sat 19th Feb
More great progress at the sailing club this morning with a focus on preparing the old clubhouse barge for the next phase of it’s life.
With a sale of the barge now agreed, we were keen to get it moved off the bank and out of the way until it can be craned out of the water and collected later in the year.
The first job was clearing out the final bits from inside, along with releasing and moving the pontoon that had been moored at the far end…
.. followed by lowering and removing the flagpole…
… and then of course a break for coffee and a pastry.
Once we were all refueled, we got to work on moving the barge itself. The first job needed a bit of help from Trevor – pulling the steel mesh platform that had been supported by the barge into a new temporary position on top of the wooden decking that it had been next to, allowing us to move the barge away.
Fortunately, the ‘offshore’ wind meant that with plenty of muscle power and lots of rope, we were able to start moving the barge onto it’s temporary mooring without the need to launch any of the club powerboats…
…and without too much trouble we soon had it moored on the lesser used northern pontoons around the corner, out of the way.
Thanks to all who were able to come down and give their time this morning, we made some really good progress.
There will be a Work Party each Saturday morning from 9 – noon, up to 5th March (inclusive). The focus for the last 2 will be reinstating the pontoon that had been attached to the far end of the barge into a useable position, along with final tidy up of the compound, ready for the start of the new sailing season.
So, why don’t you come on down next Saturday morning, to join us, as we continue with these works. You’ll help us as we endeavour to improve the overall experience at ASC this coming Season. It will also help us as we encourage more of us | on the water | more of the time, in 2022. You may even be rewarded with real Coffee and treats to re-energise you til noon! Come when you can and leave when you need to.
