Our first Women on Water session was a great success, and we hope it is one of many to come.
The evening began with lots of sunshine and plenty of wind, including some strong gusts which made for some exciting sailing. We had two boats available to take people out in as well as other club and owned boats for women to sail independently.
Everyone who sailed managed the conditions extremely well, and you could really start to see people making great progress with their sailing skills.
Sailing skills aside, one of the best things to come out of the event was the comradery and community feel. It was great to see women supporting women on and off the water and developing friendships in a welcoming environment.
As the evening progressed the wind dropped and we fired up the BBQ, sharing cakes and Iona’s amazing waffles with ice cream and strawberries for dessert. We also enjoyed a taste of whiskey as it isn’t a Friday night at ASC without Louis and his whiskey tasting!
Participating in a such a male-dominated sport, it was inspiring to see so many women on water. Which I hope will provide role models for aspiring female sailors, something which is close to my heart.
A massive thank you to all those who came and those who supported the event to make it a success!
Look out for the next WOW event coming soon!!!
