Commodore’s Note

Commodore’s Welcome Note

Welcome to the Attenborough Sailing Club . You will find a great deal of information on our website where you will find a calendar of Social, Sailing and Training events at the club.  Particularly if you are a new member, please familiarise yourself with the sections concerning the club’s Sailing Instructions, Use of the Club Boats and Safety Code.

The Diary section also includes member’s duties supporting the sailing events, using Dutyman.  You will receive Dutyman log-on details to select or swap your duties

Sailing starts in early March, with the Snowdrop racing series and Cruising or Casual Sailing on Friday afternoons and evenings and later in the season on Saturday afternoons. Seasoned sailors are usually on hand to support recently qualified new members or those wanting to practice their sailing skills. Alternatively, enjoy the surrounding of the Nature Reserve from the deck of the clubhouse.

Interclub racing will be organized with local clubs. Open meetings take place at Attenborough during the year. Please check the Sailing Programme section for details of these events.

The Training Programme is organized and will run throughout the year. Powerboat Handling is for newer members wanting to helm the safety boats. Adult and Youth beginner’s sailing courses will be held. Cruising members are all included in the training, with cruising biased training. Youth Improver Training is being planned. Please check the training programme for further details

Sailing continues throughout the year with the final race being held on Boxing day, so there’s lots of opportunity to get on the water!

Social events will abound, with the Fitting Out Supper starting the ball rolling, in April in the clubhouse.

The Committee looks after the club’s affairs; however, this cannot happen without your help, be it demolishing, building, weeding, grass cutting, tea making or simply turning up for your duty.  It takes all of us to run the club!

Happy Sailing
