In 2006, thanks to the National Lottery Sports For All fund, and in conjunction with Broxtowe Borough Council, the club was able to purchase four RS Visions. These form part of the club boat fleet. These boats are extremely versatile and are used for learning to sail, racing and cruising. All of the boats are equiped with asymmetric spinnakers and have additional reefing points for heavy weather sailing.
In addition to the RS Visions, the club has a fleet of 5 Topper sailing dinghies which can be rigged with either a full size sail or smaller training sail and have been converted to centre mainsheet operation.
Wishing to further enhance its fleet of sailing dinghies, particulary for use by junior (8-13 year old) and youth (13-16 year old) members, the club was fortunate to receive funding from Sport England in late 2009 to purchase two Laser Bugs for the Juniors and two RS Fevas for the Youths. These now compliment the exisiting fleet and we are able to provide a boat for all ages and abilities.
The boats have been a great asset to our RYA training school who are now able to introduce newcomers to sailing in well equipped modern dinghies.
The club also uses the boats for club match racing events which are normally held once or twice a year.
The boats are free for members to use (subject to the Club Boat Policy) either as a brief alternative to sailing their own boat or perhaps whilst a new member considers which boat they wish to purchase themselves.
